We use two different types of cookies on this website: necessary cookies and marketing cookies. Information about these is provided below.
Click here to change your settings as they relate to the use of cookies.
1. Necessary cookies
We use necessary cookies to evaluate the success of our marketing measures. The information obtained with the help of these cookies is used to generate so-called conversion statistics. This process comprises the analysis of previously defined actions performed by a user on our website (e.g. accessing a specific page or placing an order). We subsequently receive information such as the total number of users who clicked on an advertisement and were forwarded to a page from which conversion data can be collected. However, we do not receive information which could be used to determine the user's identity. We do not share these conversion statistics with third parties. We use necessary cookies for purposes such as the following:
a) Saving log-in credentials during the same session and ensuring that you can log in securely
b) Displaying the progress of your booking and saving the flight you have selected
c) Writing comments
d) Analysing certain user groups
The legal basis for the use of necessary cookies is our legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Below you will find a list of all the services we use to place and process necessary cookies.
Exactag GmbH
We use services provided by Exactag GmbH (Wanheimer Straße 68, D-40468 Dusseldorf) in conjunction with necessary cookies to control the use of further cookies by means of a container and to manage your refusal to accept use of marketing cookies.
Information on the use of containers is provided under “Consent Management Systems” in the previous section.
Refusal management: You may withdraw your consent to the use of marketing cookies at any time with future effect. A cookie will be placed on your browser to ensure that the data storage function is disabled. This cookie is named 'exactag_new_ccoptout' and is placed by 'm.exactag.com'. Transmission to third country: No. Cookie deletion period: 5 years
Optimise-it GmbH
This website uses technologies from optimise-it GmbH, Karnapp 25, 21079 Hamburg (www.optimise-it.de) on technical grounds and for optimisation purposes. The cookies for optimisation purposes are used to collect and store data in pseudonymised form. To do this, a so-called fingerprint is used in addition to the cookies. The fingerprint technology saves environmental variables of the internet browser in a database but does not store any explicitly user-related information such as IP addresses.
The cookies and the fingerprint facilitate recognition of the internet browser. The data collected is not used to identify the visitor personally, nor is it merged with the personal data of the bearer of the pseudonym Transmission to third country: No. Cookie deletion period: 30 days.
Usabilla
We use the feedback services ‘Usabilla for Websites’ and ‘Usabilla for Apps’ provided by Usabilla B.V. (Rokin 16, 1012 KR, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) to analyse user feedback and optimise the website. Whenever a user clicks the feedback button or takes part in an online survey, a cookie is placed on their computer. The user’s browser creates a direct link to Usabilla’s server and passes on data from the user's device. Further information can be found here in Usabilla’s privacy statement. Transmission to third country: No. Cookie deletion period: Session cookie
Adobe Analytics
We create pseudonymous user profiles with the help of Adobe Analytics, an analysis application provided by Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited (‘Adobe’) which enables us to lay out our website according to the user's needs. Adobe Analytics also uses cookies that facilitate analysis of your website use. The information generated by the cookie, which includes browsing behaviour, click behaviour, browser settings, IP address and selected products, is pseudonymised and transmitted to an Adobe server stationed in Europe, where it is stored. Our server settings ensure that your IP address and other data are anonymised before storage and further processing. In doing so, the last octet of the IP address is replaced with zeros. Adobe uses this information to evaluate your use of the website on our behalf, to compile reports about website activity and to provide us with additional services related to website activity and internet usage. Cookie deletion period: 5 years
Adobe Target
We also use the application Adobe Target to carry out so-called ‘A/B tests’ and to display target group-based content on our website.
When carrying out A/B tests, we display different versions of our website to user groups (for example, the original version and a version with modified designs or content). By using Adobe Target, we can determine which of the two versions leads to improved performance.
To display the target group-based content, we assign users of our website to one or more target groups and then display content customised to the respective target group on our website. Adobe Target also uses cookies and saves certain information based on the cookie in a pseudonymised usage profile, which however does not enable you to be identified directly. In the pseudonymised usage profile, information on the browser and end device and information on the use of our website and the user’s approximate geographical location is transmitted to an Adobe server in Europe and stored there. As with Adobe Analytics, Adobe Target also records the IP address and anonymises it by changing the last octet before storage and further processing. The approximate location is also determined exclusively on the basis of the anonymised IP address.
For Adobe Target, Adobe uses both ‘session cookies’, which are cached only for the duration of your use of our website, and ‘persistent cookies’, which are used to store information about visitors who repeatedly access our website. Transmission to third country: No. Cookie deletion period: 2 years
Hotjar
We use Hotjar (Hotjar Ltd, Level 2, St Julians Business Centre, 3, Elia Zammit Street, St Julians STJ 1000, Malta) to better understand our users’ needs and to optimise the service and experience on our website. Hotjar is a technology service that helps us better understand our users’ experience (e.g. how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click, what users do and don’t like etc.) and this enables us to build and maintain our service with user feedback. Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on our users’ behaviour and their devices. This includes your device's IP address (processed during your session and stored in a de-identified form), device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only), and the preferred language used to display our website. Hotjar stores in this information in a pseudonymised user profile on our behalf.
Transmission to third country: No. Cookie deletion period: 365 days.
You will find further information in the section ‘About Hotjar’ on Hotjar’s help page.
Flashtalking
We use Flashtalking technology (Flashtalking GmbH, Schanzenstraße 35, 51063 Cologne) to optimise our website and carry out conversion tracking.
A pseudonymised online identifier is collected and saved in a cookie. The data collected is used for optimisation purposes and conversion tracking. During ad campaigns, cookies help us recognise that the same device has been seen before and where. This helps indicate if an ad is effective for the advertiser, and enables the advertiser to tailor messages, offers, recommendations, and promoted content to your preferences over time.
The legal basis for the processing of your data for conversion tracking purposes is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We transmit data from the EU or Switzerland to the USA within the framework of our Privacy Shield certification: Privacy Shields. (Detailed information is also available at https://www.flashtalking.com/privacypolicy)
Browser and device information: At the time of the ad being served, we collect information about your browser and device, including your browser type, device type, IP address, user agent string, operating system, mobile carrier (if applicable), connection type and identifiers assigned to your browser or device, such as the advertising identifiers assigned by platform providers.
Usage data: We collect information about the websites and mobile apps you visit, including the date and time your browser or device accesses such websites or apps and the specific pages accessed.
Click and search data: We collect information about the advertisements you click on and the search terms you employ within the services.
Location information: If permitted by your browser or device, we may collect information about the geo-location of your device for the purposes of serving ads that may be more relevant to you or helping to understand how you responded to ads served to you. We also infer information about your general (non-specific) location based on your IP address.
Cookie deletion period: 731 days.
You can find out about the exact content here: http://www.flashtalking.com/privacypolicy/.
Artefact
Our website uses the tracking and reporting tool of Artefact Germany GmbH, Rothenbaumchaussee 80C, 20148 Hamburg, Germany (hereinafter "Artefact"). This tool enables us to measure and deliver online marketing measures. In addition, we want to ensure that our website is designed to meet the needs of our customers and is continuously optimized. Cookie and pixel technologies are used for this purpose. These interests are to be regarded as justified in the sense of Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f DSGVO.
In connection with the playout of advertising media and the evaluation of click behaviour and conversion rate, information on the use of this website such as campaign, service provider, conversion, click, partner, order and product ID, date and time of the server inquiry, referrer URL, user agent, anonymised IP address, geo-data, MLIDs (cookies), time stamp of the touch point and currency is collected and stored.
You can prevent the installation of cookies by adjusting your browser software accordingly. We would like to point out, however, that in this case not all functions of this website may be used to their full extent.
As an alternative to the browser setting, especially for browsers on mobile devices, you can also prevent the collection of data by Artefact by clicking on this link. An opt-out cookie will be set, which prevents the future collection of your data when visiting this website. The opt-out cookie is only valid in this browser and only for our website and is placed on your device. If you delete the cookies in this browser, you will need to set the opt-out cookie again. Further information on data protection in connection with Artefact can be found in the Artefact privacy policy.
2. Marketing cookies
We use cookies for marketing purposes, for example to display advertising which matches the website visitor's interests. After you visit our website, this application makes it possible to show you advertising related to the services/products you viewed on our website when you visit other websites. A cookie is placed on your browser for recognition purposes. This means that your interest in certain products can be logged when you visit our website and then used to display targeted advertising when you visit other websites. We use marketing cookies for the following purposes:
a) To save the user’s log-in credentials for subsequent visits
b) To save the last search performed by the user
c) To share content on social media networks
d) To display offers based on the user's interests
e) To permit third parties to show advertisements based on the user’s interests on websites other than this one
The legal basis for the use of marketing cookies is your consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You may withdraw your consent at any time with future effect.
Below you will find a list of all the services we use to place and process marketing cookies.
Exactag
We use services provided by Exactag GmbH (Wanheimer Straße 68, D-40468 Dusseldorf) to collect data for marketing and optimisation purposes on this website and its subpages. Exactag processes this data in Germany. The legal basis for the use of cookies for marketing purposes is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR in conjunction with your consent.
Besides being used for optimisation purposes, this data can be used to generate usage profiles under a pseudonym; these are then used for marketing purposes (re-targeting) by means of a cookie sync with TheTradeDesk.
A so-called fingerprint can be used for this in addition to the cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored locally in the cache of the user's internet browser. The fingerprint technology (also called IPless-key) saves environmental variables of the internet browser in a database but does not store any explicitly user-related information such as IP addresses. The cookies and/or the fingerprint facilitate recognition of the internet browser. The data collected using the Exactag technologies will not be used to identify the user of the website personally without the data subject’s separate consent. You may withdraw your consent to the use of cookies for advertising purposes at any time with future effect. A cookie will be placed on your browser to ensure that the data storage function is disabled. This cookie is named 'exactag_new_ccoptout' and is placed by 'm.exactag.com'. It must not be deleted as long as the user objects to the storing of their data.
Transmission to third country: No. Cookie deletion period: 48h for cookie sync.
Facebook
With Facebook Pixel, Facebook can show you advertising from Eurowings on facebook.com that is customised for you. In this respect, we would like to inform you that the tracking tool Facebook Pixel may make it possible to identify users through other websites. If you have given Facebook your consent, Facebook Pixel will upon activation send general information about the browsing session along with the Facebook cookie, Pixel ID and the URL of the site visited. Absolutely no personal information is passed on to Facebook about the person who visited the website. In specific terms, all information from the HTTP header is shared. This comprises the anonymised IP address, information about the web browser, language and time zone, and the name of the mobile network or internet service provider. The anonymised IP address is not transmitted to the advertiser during this process. Facebook does not use the IP address from the HTTP header when carrying out marketing activities (i.e. for targeting or localisation purposes). Facebook does process the IP address, but does not use it further. Transmission to third country: Yes, USA. Cookie deletion period: 180 days.
Further information is available from Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ads/about/?entry_product=ad_preferences
YouTube
Embedded YouTube videos
We have embedded Eurowings videos on our website which are also available on our YouTube channel (service provided by YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Avenue, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA – “YouTube”).
The embedded videos are played in a section of the website, but not until you actively click the play button. Playing an embedded YouTube video establishes a connection to YouTube’s servers so that the video can be displayed in your browser. We have embedded these videos on our website in YouTube’s so called “privacy-enhanced mode”, which means YouTube will not store cookies on your device. However, your IP address will be transmitted when playing the YouTube video, and YouTube will be informed that you have visited our website. YouTube has indicated that this information cannot be traced back to you if you are not logged in to YouTube or another Google service when the video is played. When you click on and play an embedded video in privacy-enhanced mode, the cookies stored by YouTube on your device will not contain personal data unless you are currently logged in to a Google service. You can adjust your browser settings and add-ons to block these cookies.
You will find more information about data processing and data protection by YouTube and Google at https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en&gl=de

For this, an anonymous ID is assigned to your browser in order to determine which advertisements you have been shown and which you have clicked on. These cookies contain no other personal information. The data collected is transmitted to a server in the USA and stored there. The terms of the ‘EU-U.S. Privacy Shield’ agreements are complied with when this takes place. Google will not merge your data with any other data stored by Google. Transmission to third country: Yes, USA. Cookie deletion period: 540 days. You can view Google’s Privacy Policy here: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en&gl=de
Google Ads

Google collects data about your usage patterns on our website and allows us to show you advertising customised to your needs on third-party sites. This data is not merged with your profile or booking data at Eurowings.com. Transmission to third country: Yes, USA. Cookie deletion period: 540 days.

Google AdSense
We have used Google AdSense to display advertisements to you on this website. AdSense uses cookies that make it possible for Google and its partner websites to display advertisements based on users’ visits to our and other websites on the internet. The company operating Google AdSense is Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States.
Google uses cookies and similar identifiers such as advertisement IDs to provide advertising services for users not logged in with their Google account. We keep a record of displayed advertisements in our logs. These server logs usually include the websites visited, the IP address, the browser type, the browser language, the date of the advertisement request, the time of the advertisement request and one or more cookies or an advertisement ID that act as a unique identifier of the user’s browser or mobile device. Google makes the IP addresses in logs anonymous by removing part of the address after nine months. After 18 months, Google further anonymises the log data by removing the cookie or advertisement ID both in the logs and in the ad-serving databases.
User profile information associated with advertisement cookies and advertisement IDs is also stored in databases that can be accessed in real time in order to display advertising. The data stored in these databases is either erased or made anonymous after 18 months.
Signed-in Google users can delete previous search enquiries, browser histories and other authenticated activities from their Google accounts. This information is stored and potentially forwarded to the user’s profile for registered advertisements until a user deletes it. These events cease to contribute to the user’s profile for registered advertisements when they are deleted. Further information about the data erasure functions available in ‘My Activity’ can be found in the My Activity Help Centre. Signed-in users can also view and edit their Google account’s advertising profile in the Ads settings.
Transmission of data to foreign countries: United States, non-EU countries with Google offices.
User data linked to cookies and advertisement IDs is also used to identify and prevent advertising fraud and ensure that users do not see advertisements that they have blocked in the past. In these cases, or in cases where Google stores this data on behalf of its clients (e.g. in Google Analytics), the data may be stored for periods longer than those outlined above.
The legal basis for the use of cookies for marketing purposes is GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) in conjunction with your consent.
As part of this technological process, Alphabet Inc. also learns about your surfing patterns on and visits to this website in order to see where the visitors and clicks originate from and calculate its subsequent commission charges. Further information about AdSense can be found here: https://www.google.de/intl/en_uk/adsense/start/.
You will find additional information about the purpose and extent of the data collection and processing over the following link: http://www.google.de/intl/en/policies/technologies/ads.
